Frequently asked questions

How much smaller will my file get?

It depends on the PDF and the level you pick. 'Less compression' only strips metadata, so the drop is small but text stays selectable. 'Recommended' and 'Extreme compression' re-render every page as an image at a reduced quality, which shrinks image-heavy and scanned PDFs a lot more.

Will compression reduce image quality?

'Less compression' does not touch image quality. 'Recommended' and 'Extreme compression' do re-encode every page, so there is a visible quality tradeoff — and the page text is no longer selectable/searchable in the compressed file, since each page becomes an image.

Can I download a ZIP instead of a PDF?

Yes — after compressing, use the "Download as ZIP" button to get the compressed PDF packaged in a .zip file.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. Compression happens entirely inside your browser — your files never leave your device.
